Acquisition Enhances Follett Software Company’s Market Leadership
In a simultaneous press release last July 26, 2006, Follett Software Company and Sagebrush Technologies announced that Follett Software Company has acquired Sagebrush’s library automation business, including Athena, Spectrum (formerly Winnebago), Accent and Infocenter.
The following long quote from the press release gives some details of the merger -
“Sagebrush has been a highly respected name in library automation for more than two decades and we are committed to continuing to provide Sagebrush customers with outstanding service and innovative software solutions,” said Tom Schenck, President of Follett Software Company. “Delivering outstanding support to our new customers is of utmost importance to us and we plan to continue supporting Sagebrush products for the foreseeable future,” added Schenck.
“Follett and Sagebrush share a strong commitment to customers and innovation and we are pleased that, in this manner, Follett will be meeting the future needs of our library automation customers,” said Jim Zicarelli, former CEO of Sagebrush Corporation. “Sagebrush Books and Sagebrush Library Services will continue as a new separate company,” added Zicarelli.
The Sagebrush library automation business will initially operate under the Sagebrush name as a subsidiary of Follett Software Company and over time will be integrated into Follett Software Company.
“Our highest priorities are to ensure that the transition from Sagebrush to Follett is seamless and simple and to keep our new customers involved and informed throughout the integration process. Consequently, as we make any future changes to the Sagebrush product line, we will work closely with our new Sagebrush customers to make the timing of upgrades to new technology as easy and seamless as possible,” added Schenck.
Follett Software Company provides library automation and educational asset management software to educational institutions and districts. Follett software is used in about 38,000 schools worldwide.
Follett Software Company is a subsidiary of Follett Corporation — a $2.2 billion, privately-held company that provides products, services and solutions to the educational marketplace. Follett Corporation was founded in 1873 and has its headquarters in River Grove, Illinois.
Follett Software Company is represented in the Philippines by Electronic Information Solutions Inc (http://www.eisi.com.ph, tel 8436571).

Twenty (20) catalogers attended the 6th MARC21 Workshop, a one day event held at World Citi Colleges’ Quezon City campus at Aurora Blvd, Cubao. Participants are pleasantly surprised to learn how much easier they can do cataloging work by using MARC21. Once again, we were pleased to have experienced cataloger Francisco Tamor of UP College of Science, partnering with Pedro Tabinas of EISI, to deliver another successful training.

Before moving on to more recent events, we take this time to remember an event which we were not able to cover due to our website transition, either at aklatan.net or at EISI News. The 3rd edition of the Follett Comprehensive Training Course was much awaited since none was held the past four years. It was finally held last 13-16 December 2005 at Capitol University, Cagayan de Oro City, with 24 participants. Four trainors – one from EISI, one from another private company, and two from the academe – pooled their knowledge and experiences to give the participants in-depth knowledge of the Follett library automation software. Thank you Ms. Sahlee Bualat, Library Director, and Dr. Luzvimin Sy-Aves, VP for Academic Affairs, for allowing us to hold the course in your university and helping us get it done! Pictures below-
