13th MARC21 Workshop ‘Reloaded’ at Saint Louis College- La Union June 11, 2008

The 13th MARC21 Workshop Reloaded was successfully held at St. Louis College (SLC) – La Union, Lingsat, San Fernando City with thirty nine (39) participants mostly from Region 1 and nearby provinces, but there was also participation from as far as Tuguegarao City and Cagayan (Lal-lo). This two-day intensive seminar is the 5th edition of MARC21 Reloaded series from EISI and partner libraries featuring Bibliography and Authority MARC 21 Format.

At the opening program, Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM (OIC President of SLC) welcomed the participants highlighting the importance of MARC standard. According to him “Choosing to use MARC enables our library to acquire cataloging data that is predictable and reliable. The use of MARC records is definitely taking advantage of an industry-wide standard whose primary purpose is to foster communication of information”. Mr. Mark Erick N. Lapitan, Section Head Librarian-Serials & Graduate Library was given the honor to introduce the Resource Speaker, Mrs. Sonia Gementiza- Library director of Dela Salle University. EISI Technical Supervisor, Mr. Pedro Tabinas was also present as a trainer in this two-day seminar workshop.

In a closing remark made by the Chief Librarian, Mrs. Ligaya Caranay, the participants were encouraged to be innovative, to navigate knowledge electronically and above all to automate their libraries. Mrs. Caranay along with her staff worked hand in hand with EISI team headed by the training coordinator Ms. Naidz Abragan in making the workshop a successful one.

Thirty nine participants from different instiitutions joined the seminar workshop.
